Re: TRACKMANIA ON NINTENDO DS... IT'S OFFICIAL!

The DS is just a computer, but it runs 2 processors (you actually write 2 executables that run at the same time) that are ARM architecture instead of x86. Also, graphics and sound on the PC are done through DirectX, whereas the DS has its own unique graphics and sound hardware with their own softwar...

Re: TRACKMANIA ON NINTENDO DS... IT'S OFFICIAL!

It's also important to remember that Trackmania DS probably doesn't share any code with the PC version. Nadeo didn't make it, and the hardware is vastly different. As far as graphics go, it makes more sense to look at other DS games to get an idea of what TM DS will be like. For example, I'm pretty ...

Re: TRACKMANIA ON NINTENDO DS... IT'S OFFICIAL!

Yeah, the DS isn't capable of the level of graphic detail that the PC is, so textures will be much lower resolution and take up much less space. Also, in the PC version, there are several versions of each 3D model. The different versions have different levels of geometric detail, so that slower comp...

Re: TRACKMANIA ON NINTENDO DS... IT'S OFFICIAL!

Assuming it will have multiplayer on Nintendo Wifi Connection, I wonder how many people will be able to race on a track at the same time?

Also, I wonder what other Trackmania features it will support, like the 3 standard camera angles, automatic camera changes, replays, and painted cars?

Re: Why aren't all Nadeo's online sites connected?

Thanks Xymph, your links section looks exactly like what I was thinking about: one page that connects everything. I just bookmarked it. Maybe I should stop chattering and add a hub like that to my website.

Thanks everyone for discussing this, especially Slig for explaining some of the history.

Re: Why aren't all Nadeo's online sites connected?

Yes, why ? having a link to the dedicated server without a link to a forum and tutorials would be useless for most players. And anyway a google search show it easily for someone who know what he is looking for ;) Sorry, I must have worded that badly, I meant a link to the forum thread, not a link t...

Re: Why aren't all Nadeo's online sites connected?

Yes, that would be a good idea. I guess the problem is different owners. Focus, the publisher, does some sites (French official site, and maybe the English too), while Nadeo runs others. Other local sites are run by the local publisher too, probably. And then some are run by Nadeo as well as owned ...

Why aren't all Nadeo's online sites connected?

This isn't a problem, I suppose, but it's something that I've been wondering about. Why doesn't Nadeo connect the Mania Zones site, the ManiaLink manager, the dedicated server account manager, a site to download the dedicated servers, and maybe some ManiaLink documentation, all together at trackmani...

I'm no programmer but it doesn't seem like this would be a very time consuming addition for Nadeo You'd be surprised. The current game engine never has to handle more than one camera. There is a lot of stuff in a game that depends on the camera, and making the game support 4 cameras could be more c...

Hotseat is just split screen without the racing and fun elements :D. I disagree, Phil. Me and my friends play hotseat and we have a blast. It's fun watching someone struggling to keep up with your car, especially if you've been honking the horn a lot. (car horn + doppler effect = funny noises) Mayb...

Audio stream not created when shooting video

When I shoot a video, the audio stream is not created correctly. The video is silent. I've tried messing around with my computer's audio settings, but I can't get it to work.

Does anyone know how to get the audio stream to be created correctly?

TMU Command-Line Options?

PlayLinc uses command-line parameters to tell Nations to connect to a server on startup. (this was used for the Verizon tournament, where Nations had to be launched from PlayLinc in order to connect to the tournament servers) Does United also support command-line parameters? Specifically, I'm wonder...

You missed many options. As an example, I think that a "Jungle" environment would be nice although I can't conceive any original game physics for that. Yeah, jungle would be great. It would be really immersive, but MT flythroughs might be tricky considering there's no way to see into dense jungle f...

I started on Nations and, in my opinion, getting United is definitely worth it. No, there are no track-building limitations. Everything works right out of the box. Coppers are used to buy things off of people's ManiaLink sites (cars, tracks, music, etc., prices are determined by the creator of the M...
