TMNF unstable in Windows 7

Post by jedimario » 25 Aug 2010 21:41

I'm having some stability issues when playing Nations Forever in Windows 7. Whenever in a race on a map with water, the game will freeze up, minimize for about 10 seconds to my desktop, then restore itself and run fine again. This process repeats every 30 seconds-1 minute, and will continue in all races afterwards, even if the map has no water. This issue seems to start only while playing a map with water; I can play other maps fine until I choose one with water.

Windows 7 Professional, 32-bit
DirectX 11
nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS 512MB
nVidia driver version 258.96

Any ideas? Thanks!

Try playing around with your settings (Launcher, Configue, Advance, Water Geometry etc.) and see if you have any luck there.

For reference the 8600 GTS is not a dx11 compatible card so it will be using dx10

Good luck ^^

Well, something's gone wrong somewhere then...

Anyway, I unckecked the water geometry checkbox and it seems to be working fine now. Thanks!

No problems, Maybe it's a driver issue ... rarely a newer version driver can "poop up" and older cards function .. so personally i would try rolling back one setp and seeing if it's ok then,

Also make sure windows and other related things like .NET framework are up to date, any one of these could affect this.

Glad you have it working for now, and hope you find a solution so you can turn your details back on in the end

If you have a multi-core CPU try setting the affinity of the TM process to just use one core. That stops the little glitches that I kept having.

Try turn off Windows Aero, set Windows 7 Basic theme 8)
that solved minimizing problem in many games
