[ASECO 2.x] Public Database

A few weeks ago i made the decision of making the public database alive again.

As Dedimania gets more and more servers connected to it, i thought of making this database a relief of the almost 30 servers that try to connect to dedimania through aseco.

So hereby comes: Public Database 2.0 with help from AM & Flo.

After getting the files from AM & Flo i started out redoing the plugin. On the way there were some troubles.
Troubles like:
my host doesn't like granting for sql.
SQL errors for logins & nicknames.
SQL errors for procedures.

At the moment these are fixed.

The public database of Aseco is back online.

The database is hosted on my own pc. Which means its not always online. Its online round 15.00 +1 GMT till 21.00 +1 GMT.

Notice 1:
I'm looking for a host that has full mysql support. Which means it doesnt user (user_username) but only user as database login. Also Grant and Revoke acces and full access like for example: USBwebserver.

Notice 2:
Make an account on : http://www.pubdb.w1lla.nl

Notice 3:
Add your details to the config called:
pubdb.xml

Add the following in the config:

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<settings>
 <!-- Public Database Server Settings -->
 <!-- Create your account at www.pubdb.w1lla.nl -->
 <server_host>84.30.238.76:5228</server_host>
 <server_login>Login you want tot use for a Server</server_login>
 <server_password>Password you entered</server_password>
 <!-- Do you want Aseco to display the records? -->
 <display>True</display>
</settings>
Just leave the server_host as it uses a .txt file from the public database.

Is this a replacement for the local database plugin, as per the original, or a leaderboard like DM..?

I have still never figured out why people think the public database is a replacement for the original. It's purpose is to be for race record keeping only, it can never "replace" the local database (unless you want to lose all of the features related to the local db).

The PubDB that Willa is setting up should be functionally the same as the one that Flo and I were hosting. It's just being hosted in a different place, and Willa has had to make some minor code changes to the plugin to make it work right.

as Assembler Maniac says its a leaderboard replacement for Dedimania.

Dedimania is getting alot of servers connected to it and only +- 30 servers are Aseco.

If Aseco has it own public database as a replacement dedimania can be used for "world records" but also the public database can be used for it.

Its just a way of seeing what is really the world leading leaderboard like world records.

In the future the site will show records by players.

Sorry, my only reference to the old public_db was the old Aseco v.6 documentation.. Never used it, really.

So, what makes the public db so special? Is there any reason to use it over DM? Are checkpoints counted and validated?

its features are more or less the same as dedimania.

Only thing that might be different is that cheats can be deleted automaticaly by an admin of the database.

"automatic" and "by an admin" is a contradiction. :P
Anyway, deletion is what I do for Dedimania too, so no difference there.
