just a random question

Hi.

In some topic , here or Maniaplanet forum , people are talking about having the server controller on a different machine then the dedicated server.

I do not understand why they do that , anyone knowing the reason for that ?

Does it work faster ? .....

Thanks

It isnt faster, to the contrary: it is much slower!
I dont understand why people do it but there must be a good reason for accepting that performance loss

I guess your assumption was related on that the splitted servers are not in a neighborhood?

If you have three root-servers which are located in the same server-room and they are connected with a 1000 M/bit switched LAN, then you can have one root-server for the dedicated server, one for XAseco and one for the MySQL-Database. The uplink to the internet should also be powerful, otherwise you have that as bottleneck.

In this case you can win performance, but i think this construct makes no sense in any case. :1

even with 255 players on a server a modern cpu like a intel e3 1270 v3 isn't maxed out on a single thread so i don't think that you will win anything. afaik the xmlrpc interface of the dedicated server will be the bottleneck in every powerfull constellation, but maybe somebody has already tested what will be first the bottleneck and can share his experience with us because i'm interested in it
