breakable stuff?

Post by runnygunny » 15 Oct 2009 16:09

I think having breakable stuff in trackmania 2 is good. Because some tracks have streetlights, and suppose in real life hit a street light with your car and it falls down. This should be in the options menu.

DO NOT even THINK about implementing that option. It will reduce the frame rate and/or require the minimum system requirements to be cranked up. If you want to destroy stuff while you race, buy Midnight Club, Need For Speed, or Burnout.

depends on what kind of smash-able stuff...... you could for example sake have the skyscrapers from bay have breakable windows so you can us the internal structure as part of the track...... but then thinking about it, it is a bit pointless haha

Sorry, not being done as you would need PhyX or havok coded into the game. There is no such thing in multiplayer games to turn this on or off. So in other words, can't and won't happen.

BTW, only nvidia has PhyX.. 8000 series and up. Anyone with a card below that (or with an ati) wouldn't be able to play. If you can't use the software then you can't play. Unless you can turn it off as mentioned.

Not quite true, If your card doesn`t support PhysX your proccessor does the calculations instead, puts more strain on your CPU but doesn`t stop it from happening. Also Havok is a full software physics engine which works on every pc everywhere and has done since long before PhysX has existed. And besides knowing Nadeo they would knock-up their own physics engine to deal with this sort of thing rather than put up with someone elses code.

Meh... screw PhysX and Havok and just use Bullet instead - until TM2's release it should support OpenCL well enough... :D

(Hey, it doesn't even cost anything *AND* Rockstar used it for GTA4... ;))

True, but it would be nice to be able to hit a thin lamp-post and knock it over with almost no loss of speed instead of stopping dead everytime. Same for tyre stacks (like those in the Coast GP sections) it would be better if they went flying (affecting only your race NOT other peoples) than them acting like a steel box filled with bricks.

Personally I would find it very odd if I were playing a game with a semi-destructible track and an indestructible car. Maybe a compromise (which could possibly be a legitimate suggestion) is that objects out of different materials cause the car to behave differently. You example was a wall of tires: The car would bounce off it rather than crash. Another layer of detail could be added with different impact sounds - meaning not always the metal clash when a car hits the ground.

Have you ever driven a car against a lamppost? I think your car would stop very quickly... :race:

Personally I must admit I always wanted the huge Fan intakes on stadium turbo blocks to eat cars when hit head on and spit out chunks of the car from the back like a crazed wood chipper from hell. XD
