Corruption: cheat or not cheat

Post by algi » 27 Jan 2009 19:31

Sometimes when there are 2 or more good players at a server and one of them crashes, (s)he asks the other good player not to go through the finish line. I think this is the corruption of the ladder system, because by not doing everything to get the best possible score, they ruin the chances of not so good players in the same race. I'm not saying that it's all bad intentions, but I still think it's not fair. What's your opinion? Is this okay? Is it part of the game? What's the general perception of this phenomenon?

OK wait. You're online and someone crashes into something and they basically say "Hey wait for me!" don't finish yet?
Hell I hardly noticed the chat that's going on while I'm driving anyway, so I would just end up ignoring them and not see it until I did finish.
Now I will admit I've said that to friends I was racing online with but as a joke, if they stopped or not wouldn't matter to me.

well, its really annoying to get decent records on a rounds server because you can't restart.
Its up to the other person's choice if they want to stop or not.
Not all people care about ladder points, records and fantastic times are more important to some people (like me).
LP does not really tell how skilled you are, but a low server rank does.

well, on a server in rounds mode i always stop before finish the first 2-3 rounds, to get the other ppl on the server to learn the track before we fight for real. if this gives points to someone i dont care about. For me is about play on equal terms.. I have seen players adding
tracks they know from tmx, and drive to finish without letting other players learn the track
first.. that is not fair play.

This is starting to get complicated. Aren't the tracks downloadable? So that they can be learned offline?

some servers disable downloads
anyways, downloading tracks that way means having to play all the tracks on a server, which is not practical as it will take a long time
and #2, trying to find the tracks be searching the name on tmx
the search feature doesn't always work perfectly (many times I have been unable to find tracks that I was sure they were on tmx), and not all tracks are uploaded there.
so downloading tracks to practice offline (and who really does that to get lp) is only practical for those that have hours of spare time each day.

This has nothing to do with cheating. Only reason why this happens is because those players care about (server)recs, not about points/winning. They want a good time, so they ask the other players only to finish if they are doing a good lap, so you have another chance to do a good time.

It's not really waiting, but asking to only finish (and so getting the points for winning that round, and going to the next track) if the time is good.

Agreed.

I've been guilty of the whole 'don't finish please' thing (both ask, and been asked). Most really good drivers -don't- care about the ladder as much as they do beating the dedimania records, so I do see it often when me and another good driver are having a nice back-and-forth battle, one of us crashes and the other retires our of respect.
