Creating a dedicated server (linux)

Post by Tom_B » 04 Jul 2020 14:18

I've followed the instructions to set up a dedicated server (Why you need coppers to run a FreeZone server I have no idea. I paid for TMUF, let me host a server that my friends can play on using nations.....)

I'm trying to create a server so that my friends can play and join any time.

The server is running and I have the following output from the command:

Code: Select all

tmn_tmn_1 is up-to-date
Attaching to tmn_tmn_1
tmn_1 | Starting TmForever v2011-02-21...
tmn_1 | Initializing...
tmn_1 | Configuration file : dedicated_cfg.txt
tmn_1 | Loading system configuration...
tmn_1 | ...system configuration loaded
tmn_1 | Loading cache...
tmn_1 | ...OK
tmn_1 | Listening for xml-rpc commands on port 5000.
tmn_1 | Trackmania server daemon started with pid=7 (parent=6).
tmn_1 | Starting TmForever v2011-02-21...
tmn_1 | Initializing...
tmn_1 | Configuration file : dedicated_cfg.txt
tmn_1 | Loading system configuration...
tmn_1 | ...system configuration loaded
tmn_1 | Loading cache...
tmn_1 | ...OK
tmn_1 | Listening for xml-rpc commands on port 5000.
tmn_1 | Trackmania server daemon started with pid=7 (parent=6).

While this looks like it's working. I have no idea how to join the server. It doesn't appear in the server list because it's not a FreeZone server (would be nice but I don't have the coppers...)

Why can't I just give my friends my server IP? Is there something like tmtp://#joinip=123.123.123.123

So far I have:

1. Gone to player.trackmania.com and set up a dedicated username/password

2. Opened both the ports on the server (2350 and 3450) and verified the ports are open ( http://dedimania.net/deditest does say (
A TMF server [server] is responding on TCP port 2350 !)

3. Changed dedicated_cfg.txt and set the following:

Code: Select all

 	<masterserver_account>
		<login>myusername</login>
		<password></password>
		<validation_key></validation_key>
	</masterserver_account>

Where the details are the dedicated server username/password I configured.

In theory I should be able to join by typing tmtp://#join=myusername right? Unfortunately this just says "Unable to connect".

What am I missing and why can't I connect?

First of all ... i dont see a major problem with your server setup.

Without Freezone your friends with an free account need to do tmtp://#addfavourite=YOUR_SERVER_LOGIN
So they add the server to thier favorites list.

tmtp://#joinip=123.123.123.123 and tmtp://#join=myusername is wrong ...
It have to be tmtp://#join=YOUR_SERVER_LOGIN

Maybe u will find the server at the correct country location. (you can find the location at the player page)

2 more things you can check inside the "dedicated_cfg.txt" ...
1. <hide_server>0</hide_server> need to be 0 otherwise you don't find the server in the official list ... if yes you need to do tmtp://#addfavourite=YOUR_SERVER_LOGIN

2. <ladder_mode>forced</ladder_mode>, <ladder_serverlimit_min> and <ladder_serverlimit_max>
Without ladder you have to set <ladder_serverlimit_min>0</ladder_serverlimit_min> and <ladder_serverlimit_max>50000</ladder_serverlimit_max>

If you do want a ladder server you can setup the LadderMode also at the player page under Ladder Servers ...

Greetings
