It was a pit crew member that posted the fix on the twelfth page.. Why not edit Flo[rent]'s post, or create a new sticky..?
Pit Crew members don't have forum admin rights outside the Toolbox forum. And don't confuse Flo with Florent.

Anyway, in general I agree with nocturne points. While Florent's post may initially have seemed sufficient, the continued development of server and clients have led to a situation that's very confusing, and Nadeo could and should do a far better job at solving the patching problems that more and more players are now running into.

[2009/10/15 16:50:25] Ban : internal checks failed for 'v3xusfredde'.
Does this indicate the login was spoofed per the new connection protocol checks?
well... I wasn't clever enough to log the actual check that failed, so the answer is "maybe". It could also be one of the older checks for the previous protocol.
or a bug...
Well, then adding more info to the log is a nice little to-do item for ya.

Since I started using this build on my public server, I'm also seeing more 'time incoherence' bans in a few days, than with the previous builds during this entire year until that upgrade:

Code: Select all

[2009/10/13 19:49:16] Ban robin8894: Time incoherence.
[2009/10/14 01:37:05] Ban js13: Time incoherence.
[2009/10/14 21:41:25] Ban killerbmw1: Time incoherence.
[2009/10/14 22:22:21] Ban brimpehh: Time incoherence.
[2009/10/15 18:23:53] Ban tintin7851: Time incoherence.
[2009/10/16 17:09:49] Ban marcio_1993: Time incoherence.
Are the cheats checks more strict now, or are they too strict? I wasn't on my server monitoring them when any of these happened, so I have no idea whether those logins were really messing about, or whether they are just innocent victims.

I was banned from my own server lol. Same error, time incoherence. I didn't use cheats, game version 2.11.21.

In time attack mode on a laps map i respawned 2 times from one checkpoint. On the next I was banned.
Xaseco 1.10 didnt notice anything.

Some of my team mates can´t install the TMUF-2009-10-09 gamefix. They get that message:
distros not compatible
sounds spanish, but they have the german version.

"Distros" is Linux speak for "distributions", and it's English.

It sounds like they don't have a current enough version of Linux to run the new executable and probably need to update the OS to something more current.

Well, are any of them using the Steam (or perhaps Direct2Drive or some other download) version? Because those probably aren't compatible with the fix posted here and need their own fix (probably delivered via whatever update mechanism those download sites have)...

Well, I don't see any reason why the originally zipped patch wouldn't work, no matter whether it's a distributed copy or not...

Just unzip into your TMF game directory. If using on a distributed version, it's a good idea to backup the TMForever.exe and TMForeverLauncher.exe files first just in case...

I can confirm that the new server tends to detect more false positives on time incoherence than the previous builds. :(
Most likely happens on multilap.

About the "time incoherence" false positives that occur more often:
more often that what version?
2009-08-01 ? some older version still?

(because they are almost no changes between 2009-08-01 and 2009-10-09, so I'm wondering.
But I'm afraid I think I may give up debugging it and just add an option to remove the automatic Ban()..)

I'm too afraid to try the dedserver, honestly, despite some interesting new features...

It's nice that there are indeed a few more incoherency checks to prevent cheating, but I don't at all like the thought of a bugged detection resulting in a player added to the banlist. Why not just kick them from the server with a warning message, and not register the time as a finish..? That way bugged detections just result in a slightly disgruntled player having to rejoin the server; and attempted cheaters become annoyed with constantly getting the boot. In addition, with that solution Nadeo could require that all ranked servers upgrade to the latest official dedserver versions within, lets say, 30 days or so, preventing intentional 'safe havens' for cheaters.

Frankly, the best solution would be to use a method to prevent process hijacking the game to begin with, which would in turn disable many of the current cheat methods. In TMN we had starforce, which subdued all but the most determined and experienced cheaters, instead of allowing it to be as simple as running a 'trainer'. Despite all the grumblings about SF, the only real gripe was that linux users couldn't run the game in emulation, which DirectX isn't even legally licensed for.

Biggest problem for people now is all this client-patching-stuff. A friend today got a message when trying to install the latest patch, that he didn't need the .23-version (he had the .12-version). The .19-version worked though.

If the installer doesn't work, using the zip files I posted above should work perfectly fine.
