FIX FOR SAITEK KEYBOARDS

Post by stoo » 28 Jan 2006 15:37

Update: This post applies to Windows XP only. If you are a Windows Vista user, please read posts later in this thread for more information.
If anyone has any reliable methods for fixing this problem in Vista, please let me know and I'll add them to this post.

Thought I'd post a clear explanation of the fix for Saitek keyboards. This worked for me, hopefully it will work for you too.

1. Go into Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager

2. Open up the Human Interface Devices tree. On my system it looks like this:

Image

3. Right click on the last USB Human Interface Device and choose properties. Make sure that the device location is called (USB Gaming Keyboard Pro). If it is not, keep moving up the list until you find the USB Human Interface Device with that location.

4. Disable the last USB Human Interface Device relating to the USB Gaming Keyboard Pro on that list (probably the one i've highlighted) by right-clicking on it and choosing Disable. After you do this a few of the entries should disappear from the list. It should look like this:

Image

5. That's all it took for me. Try the game and you should be able to enter your name and choose a flag!

Hope this solution works for all of you having problems with Saitek keyboards!

Edit: included a step to check that the USB HID we are disabling is in fact the Saitek keyboard! :)

Thanks :) That did the trick and now I'm able to play. Now I just need to spend some time giving my car a new paintjob.

Just started trying to play this with my Saitek, was quite frustrated when it was being stupid. Thanks for the tips though, got it to work.

You saved my day!!!

I was ready to throw out the game and my PC, but this helped!

Do you know if this might have been the reason that after installing the game and trying to run it, the "Y" key seemed to lock up when I returned to Windows..?
(this also happened before when I installed Far Cry, but I got that to work ok somehow...)

Anyway, THANKS AGAIN!!

If you are using a Logitech G5 Mouse you also need to do the above steps for the mouse.

Great Post. :D
