TRACKMANIA ON NINTENDO DS... IT'S OFFICIAL!

Post by Focushome » 14 Feb 2008 10:29

We are pleased to announce with this first teaser video that TrackMania will officially be released in Q4 2008 on Nintendo DS™!

TrackMania, the much-loved series of racing games focusing on fun and frantic racing, now makes its stunning debut on the Nintendo DS. Far from hardcore driving simulations, TrackMania is based on the fun and the spectacular aspect of racing. With TrackMania DS, you drive at mind-blowing speeds on incredible tracks made of jumps, loops, turbo boost pads and many other crazy design elements. Just like the renowned PC version, TrackMania DS will offer an amazing track editor that will let you create your own unique and exciting tracks from hundreds of different design blocks, giving the game near-infinite replay value.

TrackMania DS has been in development for several months by the English studio Firebrand, known for their previous work on titles such as Race Driver: Create & Race for the Nintendo DS.

“We are very happy with this partnership with Firebrand,” said Cédric Lagarrigue, CEO of Focus Home Interactive, “Their technology and background guarantee TrackMania DS will be a solid adaptation of the PC game, while also making the most of unique features of the DS. The fact that some members of the Firebrand team are true TrackMania fans definitely convinced us to trust them, and the first results are spectacular. We believe that the Nintendo DS console is well-suited for more casual games than to realistic simulations, and TrackMania DS, with the fun it brings in solo as well as in multiplayer mode, along with its well-known track editor, should find itself quite a nice place on Nintendo’s handheld.”

that's actually a good move. Trackmania on ds will mean a whole new market segment that can get to know TM, and if it's done well, it will be interesting and cool for people to start to play with the editor the "ds" way :)

Assuming it will have multiplayer on Nintendo Wifi Connection, I wonder how many people will be able to race on a track at the same time?

Also, I wonder what other Trackmania features it will support, like the 3 standard camera angles, automatic camera changes, replays, and painted cars?

Great news. I've been considering getting a DS, this definately pushes me closer to doing so.

I'm wondering though, what goes on the top and what on the bottom screen? How does steering work? The D-pad might cause a bit of trouble with fast switches, and that got me thinking about whether the DS has shoulder buttons (r1, l1 for Ps owners) which could be used in steering?

How about graphics quality? I'm not sure Trackmania united or even sunrise quality graphics would run well on the device?

And if they're working together, they could help with physics rules and such. Would be great if the physics were the same so just like TMN-F can play on stadium servers it would be really neat if TM-DS would play on TMU servers. It'd of course meaning having the same blocks, same physics system and all, but it would be really really neat. Or am I the only one who'd think that?

I think its a smart move aswell, the DS is still way popular, and the touchpad will do wonders to the editor :D
With online play, and track sharing, I wont ever lay down my DS ever again!

It's a feature:) I've corrected that, because this is a very limited forum: there's actually a permission to increase posts ^^

Now, back on topic :)

How can trackmania fit on a DS card?
A DS card is maximum 1Gbit => 128MByte
And most games are 512Mbit => 64Mbyte
So it's at least 10x smaller... :?
