Official game at ESWC 2008

Post by Zell » 16 Apr 2008 12:07

I'd like to know if TMNF will become the official game for ESWC 2008, or will you stick with TMN?

Hmm looks like "Trackmania Nations".

So will it be the classic TMN ESWC Edition, or TMN Forever?
Would be nice to get a reply from an ESWC admin, thx.

Even so, I'm with Zell on this one - I want to hear it from Sylvain :) The official Rules PDF on the ESWC-USA site says the qualifiers will use "the latest version of TrackMania Nations ESWC". I don't know where you are Zell, but I'm guessing the rules say the same. Can we get some official clarification on this? I'd use TMNF and if you don't see the right server then quickly pop over to TMN :P

After playing TMN Forever a while, I think it's okay to pick this one. Many tournaments before the ESWC will use it too, and seeing how the driving is nearly the same, in my view, I don't see why not.

Plus the graphics are nicer, makes it more appealing to the crowd :D.

So?

I've played abit of TMUF Stadium (same as TMNF) these last 2 days and I must say it works.. Some maps have serious bugs, but thats up to the mappers to ensure they don't get in.
I remember a certain map in the ESWC February 2007 mappack having backflip landing bugs often.

The game looks better obviously, and has more functionality than TMN, however it's much more heavy on resources. I'm actually forced to buy a new GFX card now because some maps are impossible to play in TMNF/TMUF...

But it would be nice to know which game will be used at ESWC, and at the qualifiers of many countries.

I'm organizing the TMN preliminaries here in Brazil and I'll be using TMN for the national finals.

It's more stable with the tracks we already have and runs smoother on med-end pcs.

I think it's a shot in the dark to use a new game in world finals. If one of this landing bugs ruin someone's race it will be hell .. and that's a price I won't pay for the "eye candy".

I think beginning the season on TMN and finishing it on TMNF would be about like beginning a season on War3 and finishing it on WoW ! Or beginning the foot world cup with a football ball and finishing it with a handball ball.

Well handball and football are two totally different games with different rules. You can't compare it with TMN / TMNF which have the same gameplay and the same rules.

I was only speaking about changing the ball : playing football with a handball ball  . But for sure, I was exaggerating  ! But only a little.

Sorry Sylvain but I gotta disagree with you. The gameplay is almost the same, but not the same. Even times are different and as someone already said, some tracks are hard to play in the new version. I'm pretty sure new tracks will be designed considering the new gameplay and glitches, but the old ones just don't seem to work 100% as expected.

I really suggest us to keep the old version. American and brazilian preliminaries will finish too close to the finals and players won't have much time to adapt - using those 2 as an example because I'm not sure about the others. It wouldn't really be fair.

I know it's much more interesting for ESWC and Nadeo to use the new version and promote a new game, but what about the players?

We're part of the staff but we're players too ..
