Preferred method of control...

Post by Trackmaniack » 20 Sep 2007 16:30

Hey, this is sort of a poll of a different nature; hopefully it can start some discussion...What is the method of control you most like to use in your TM games, and why? (Choose your two favorites)

KB Powaa even though it sucks in TMS & TMO environments.
Great for stadium, decent for island slide maps and nice for desert maps too, but come to coast and rally and bay and you are dead with a KB :0010
So im learning to use a gamepad now and i play like crap at the moment with gamepad, but im sure it'll improve. To get great times in TMS & TMO environments a gamepad/joystick/wheel is a must :1

I did start off using a keyboard but as soon as I got a computer that ran a 1,000 copper map at over 5 fps I bought a gamepad.

edit

I drive no different on Rally with a keyboard or gamepad - I still suck majorly using either xD

I'm using the keyboard.
I bought me a controller once, but to me it felt like I didn't had full control over my car.

Actually with a keyboard you don't have full control over the car :P

You can only:
- steer
- not steer

With an analog controller, you can do everything in between as well. Really useful in all envs other than Stadium.

What do you mean with everything in between precisely?

This means that if you use analog inputs like the analog sticks on a gamepad or a joystick and you tilt them just a bit to the right, the car will actually steer only a bit to the right. On the keyboard there is only keydown (full steering) or keyup (no steering).
inactive, sorry

Oh, you mean like this?
Pretty impressive if you can steer like that with keyboard ^^

Keyboard's ok...

Post by Trackmaniack » 21 Sep 2007 19:07

I could do it like that in the youtube vid on my windows XP, but my keyboard in vista is so touchy, in Bay and Island, if you even tap it, you're turning like 20-30 degrees. Which is why I moved to joystick.

Yes, there is an older thread with same subject, but i can't vote for Joystick there... :|

I can't imagine how to drive rally, bay or island-nosliders with kb...

On rally, for example, even the slightest steering already costs a bit of speed. No chance with kb there.. at least not 4 me.

Because i'm too stupid to handle a gamepad, i use a stick, got used to it and would not change to something else.
