Trackmania::Arena Progress Report

Post by N3D » 23 May 2008 13:44

I don't know where to post this, so I do it here, for everyone who is interested in the project :P.

First I'll explain the main idea I've come to after my 1st post about this project.
Main Idea:
  • Make a site where people can post challenges(by challenges I mean real challenges, not tracks, of course most challenges are tracks, hope you understand it xD). This can be things like finishing a very difficult track etc.
  • People register and get 1000 points
  • Someone can post a challenge, he can choose between different types, he can select a specific amount of points someone needs to pay to download the challenge and a time the challenger can take to finish it. He can also set a time(like 1 month) for the challenge to become inactive, when this time arrives nobody can download the challenge anymore, the winners keep their points(see next items)
  • When someone wants to do a challenge he "pays" the set amount of points to the track. Then the time starts ticking, if it's like 2 hours he has 2 hours to do whatever the challenge says you should do.
  • If he completes the challenge within the time he gets put on the winner list of that challenge. All the points that have been put into the challenge are divided between all winners.
  • If he loses the challenge he loses the points he put into it, these points are divided between all winners.
  • At the start a replay someone uploaded isn't verified yet. The author of the challenge has to check if the challenger did it right. If he doesn't do that in 2 weeks the replay is auto-verified.
  • There will also be record-challenges. These aren't made by players but by TMA(Trackmania :: Arena) staff. This will be stuff like most backward loops in 2 minutes etc.
  • And as final challenge there will also be contests. Like a video-contest, at trackmaking-contest and more!
Progress Report:
Ok, this is the real progress report, it is possible I miss something on it, so I'll edit the list sometimes:

I'm sure most people want to help with website layout, since HTML and CSS aren't too hard to learn (Javascript neither). Nevertheless, I might be capable of some webdesign. I also got some small photoshop skills, though the program takes ages to launch on my computer (thats my computer's fault, once Photoshop is running, it's running smooth).

To see some of my skills, check out my website:

Some things are still ugly or not working, but the site isn't finished yet anyway.

Your javascript skills are nice, but your design skills are at about my level(check http://teun.beijers.eu), what I need is a profesional layout.

Yes, layout always seemed to be my problem... I can take hours to get a simple piece of JavaScript right, like a link (f***ing punctuations...), but I can't spend 5 minutes to fix a minor CSS issue that, when fixed, will seriously enhance the looks of things... I also never completely got the hang of tables.

Ah, well, I guess good will and moral support is already an addition to your website :P

We'll, I'll just say then: whoever makes the best layout gets a link to a site he wants on TMA in footer.

Unfortunately, I've been pretty busy for the last few days, but in a couple I could do some layout stuff.

I absolutely LOVE CSS (yeah, I'm a geek :P).

Well, I want a layout that's real web 2.0: Easy to navigate in is a must. A site I like is http://www.tbforum.nl/ Only then I want it with a bit less, but bigger frames. And maybe other colors an buttons, I just like the layout of it :P

EDIT: this is also quite nice: http://flashfocus.nl/ but then a bit less "fancy" if you know what I mean, simpler.
