A User Interface for a Wii version of Trackmania

Post by Trackmania_Infinity » 12 Mar 2009 11:48

Since they already have a version of Trackmania for the Nintendo DS, they should make a version for the Nintendo Wii or the console that succeeds. The advantage of the Wii is its motion sensing controller. While it has usually been utilized to perform tasks such as hitting a baseball or golfball, cooking food, and performing surgery, I also believe it could be used to create 3-D virtual environments very easily by using two motion controllers to create a single 3-D primitive. You would use your left hand to specify the first 3-D coordinate, and your right hand to specify the second, or vice versa. With a help of a head-tracking HMD, you could create 3-D objects just as naturally as users can create 2-D painting in Paint for Windows. And now that we have digital memory cards that can hold single gigabytes, users could make environments just as detailed as those made by the pros.
Here's a fictional video that shows how this idea would work:

What do you say to a version of Trackmania Wii?

Hmmm... not a bad idea
But won't they have to kind of downgrade the graphics if they put it on Wii?

Firebrand Games is a specialist Racing Game Development Company with studios in Glasgow, UK and Merritt Island, Florida. Currently focused on Nintendo Wii™ and DS™, we have produced a range of critically acclaimed racing games for some of the world’s leading Publishers.
Firebrand made a engine based on GRID and developed it through to Trackmania DS. Its called Octane if im not mistaken....

Octane is the name given to our in-house technology for Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS. Octane is a feature rich technology that encompasses a full development pipeline and tool chain as well as a highly developed game engine.
We are currently developing two Nintendo Wii titles for 2009 launch. Octane Wii has been designed to maximise the potential of the Wii hardware in the same way as the technology did on DS.

Those pictures there aren't bad and if I am correct, are amazing for a racing game on a Wii (best I have seen uptill now) They do look a lot like GRID except for the downsized graphics, but the environment rendering is amazing.
Here are the features they listed:
Octane Wii has been designed to maximise the potential of the Wii hardware in the same way as the technology did on DS.

Engine features include HDR style rendering; projected shadows; full scene reflections and metallic surface simulation; depth of field and motion blur- all optimised for 60Hz performance.
This even further increases the chances of there being a Trackmania Wii.

Nice idea, but the Wii-Wheel could be used for the driving part as for the trackmaking part you would need the controller, or maybe two as Trackmania_Infinity said (If I am to be correct).
